There are people out there claiming to be wearing no makeup, and you have to wonder, how do they look so good? In this day and age, it’s considered brave to go outside with a bare face. If you do decide to be without makeup, here are the essentials to prevent you from feeling like a cave man/woman.
Groom your eyebrows and remove unwanted hair
Grab some tweezers and pluck any hairs that are straying from your natural eyebrow shape. Avoid over plucking and try not to pluck above your eyebrow, unless it’s making your eyebrow fork in strange directions… If you aren’t sure whether to pluck a certain area or not, you probably shouldn’t pluck it. If you make major mistakes, or your eyebrows are extremely faint, consider getting eyebrow tattoos.
If you are female with dark upper lip hairs, removing them will make you look more polished. You could wax them or pluck them, or get them laser removed. I use this tool that you roll on your skin and it pulls at the hairs to remove them. It looks similar to the one you can get from YesStyle. It hurts a bit, but it’s a lot less painful and more efficient than plucking.
Look after your skin
Wash your face and brush your teeth in the morning and evening. Moisturize your skin. Wear sunscreen. That is the least you should do, if you are in a lazy mood. Use Vaseline or lip balm on dry spots and your lips, of course, to prevent them from getting chapped. Getting a pimple? Put on some pimple cream – or toothpaste. If it’s the latter, remember to wash it off before you go out.
Rest your eyes
I should really be doing this more too, but it’s really hard to get away from electronic devices. Take breaks every half an hour if you find yourself concentrating on a computer, kindle, or anything else that could potentially cause eye strain. You should preferably stay away from electronic devices for at least half the day. This will help prevent bloodshot eyes and lessen the likelihood of getting shadows under your eyes.
Have plenty of sleep
Sleep is also a factor for under-eye bags. Get at least eight hours of sleep every night, and you will look and feel a lot more refreshed than if you only sleep a few hours a night. Make a nightly routine to make it easier for you to drift off to sleep. I usually shower before bed, to feel relaxed and get myself in the mood to doze off. Sleeping at around the same time every night also helps.
There are definitely extra things you can do, like exercising, drinking plenty of water, and treating your skin with masks, serums and creams. Do some experimentation – you will find what works for you and what doesn’t.
